The Year of Delegations ('Am al-Wufood)
عَامُ الوُفُود
“Tribes from across the Arabian Peninsula flock to Madinah to embrace Islam, send teachers, and learn the Quran.”
Historical & Scholarly Account
Following the Opening of Makkah and Tabuk, delegations from over 70 tribes across the entirety of Arabia (Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Najd, Hadramawt, Christian tribes of Najran) journeyed to Madinah to declare their allegiance to Islam and learn its laws. The Prophet's Mosque became an international diplomatic hub. The Prophet ﷺ received every delegation with exquisite hospitality, appointed judges and teachers (such as Mu'adh ibn Jabal to Yemen and Ali ibn Abi Talib), and established the foundational pillars of Islamic governance, charity collection (Zakat), and literacy.
