The Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada')
حَجَّةُ الوَدَاع
Historical & Scholarly Account
In the tenth year of Hijrah, the Prophet ﷺ announced his intention to perform Hajj. Over 124,000 Muslims converged from every corner of Arabia to accompany him. He taught them the complete rites of Hajj personally, saying: 'Take your rituals from me, for I do not know whether I will perform Hajj after this year.' It was an ocean of white Ihram where all distinctions of wealth, race, ancestry, and social class dissolved before Allah. In the plains of Arafat on the Day of Jumu'ah, Allah revealed the immortal verse completing the religion: 'This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion' (5:3).
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion.”
Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:3) — Revealed on the Day of Arafat during the Farewell Hajj.
