The Conquest of Makkah (Fath Makkah)
فَتْحُ مَكَّةَ المُكَرَّمَة
Historical & Scholarly Account
When Quraysh violated the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah by aiding Banu Bakr against Banu Khuza'ah, the Prophet ﷺ marched with 10,000 companions to open Makkah. He entered his hometown not as a vengeful conqueror, but riding his camel with his head bowed so low in humility that his beard touched his saddle, reciting Surah Al-Fath. No bloodshed was permitted. He smashed the 360 idols around the Ka'bah with his staff, reciting: 'Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished; indeed falsehood is bound to perish' (17:81). Standing at the door of the Ka'bah, he asked the trembling Quraysh who had tortured and expelled him for two decades: 'What do you think I will do with you?' They replied: 'You are a noble brother, son of a noble brother.' He proclaimed with divine mercy: 'I say to you as Yusuf said to his brothers: No blame upon you today! Go, for you are all free!' (Idhhabu fa antum al-Tulaqa').
وَقُلْ جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا
“And say, 'Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish.'”
Surah Al-Isra (17:81) — The Prophet ﷺ reciting while purifying the Ka'bah from 360 idols.
إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ • وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا
“When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes...”
Surah Al-Nasr (110:1-3) — The divine summary of the Conquest of Makkah.
