The Conquest of Khaybar

غَزْوَةُ خَيْبَر

The neutralization of the fortified stronghold, the heroism of Ali ibn Abi Talib, and marriage to Sayyidah Safiyyah.

Historical & Scholarly Account

Khaybar was an oasis of heavily fortified stone fortresses that had continuously financed conspiracies against Madinah. The Prophet ﷺ led 1,400 men to neutralize this danger. For days, strong fortresses resisted. The Prophet ﷺ then declared: 'Tomorrow I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love; Allah will grant victory through his hands.' The next morning he summoned Ali ibn Abi Talib, healed his eye pain with his blessed saliva, and handed him the banner. Ali breached the fortress of Qamus. Following victory, the Prophet ﷺ allowed the people of Khaybar to keep and cultivate their agricultural lands, splitting produce peacefully. He married Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy, restoring her noble dignity.
