The Bond of Brotherhood (Al-Mu'akhah)
المُؤَاخَاةُ بَيْنَ المُهَاجِرِينَ وَالأَنْصَار
Historical & Scholarly Account
To solve the immense refugee crisis of the penniless Muhajirun and eradicate tribalism, the Prophet ﷺ established the historic covenant of **Al-Mu'akhah** (Brotherhood) in the house of Anas ibn Malik, pairing 90 pairs of Muhajirun and Ansar. The Ansar displayed legendary selflessness, offering to split their homes, orchards, and wealth in half. When Sa'd ibn al-Rabi' offered half his wealth to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, Abd al-Rahman thanked him gratefully and said: 'May Allah bless your family and wealth. Just show me the way to the marketplace.' Within days, he was thriving through ethical enterprise.
وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ
“...and give them preference over themselves, even though they are in privation.”
Surah Al-Hashr (59:9) — Praise for the unmatched generosity and altruism of the Ansar.
