The Blessed Hijrah & Cave Thawr
Historical & Scholarly Account
When Quraysh held a council in Dar al-Nadwah plotting to assassinate Muhammad ﷺ simultaneously with representatives from every clan, Allah instructed him to migrate. Ali ibn Abi Talib courageously volunteered to sleep in the Prophet's bed to return people's trust deposits. The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr left stealthily, climbing to Cave Thawr where they hid for three days. When the tracking scouts of Quraysh stood at the mouth of the cave, Abu Bakr worried: 'If one of them looks down at his feet, he will see us!' The Prophet ﷺ reassured him with sublime Tawakkul: 'O Abu Bakr, what do you think of two with whom Allah is their third?' Guided by Abdullah ibn Urayqit, they journeyed safely to Madinah.
“If you do not aid him - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, 'Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.'”
