The Blessed Birth
المَوْلِدُ النَّبَوِيُّ الشَّرِيف
“The birth of the Mercy to the Worlds ﷺ on a Monday in Rabi al-Awwal in the Year of the Elephant.”
Historical & Scholarly Account
Rasulullah ﷺ was born in Makkah on Monday, in the month of Rabi al-Awwal, during the Year of the Elephant ('Am al-Fil), the year Allah miraculous protected the Ka'bah from the army of Abrahah (as recorded in Surah al-Fil). His father Abdullah passed away before his birth, leaving him an orphan. When his mother Sayyidah Aminah gave birth, a radiant light illuminated the palaces of Busra in Greater Syria. His grandfather Abd al-Muttalib took the newborn into the Ka'bah, praised Allah, and named him Muhammad (The Praised One) — an extraordinary name uncommon among the Arabs.
