The Battle of Badr (Yawm al-Furqan)
غَزْوَةُ بَدْرٍ الكُبْرَى (يَوْمُ الفُرْقَان)
Historical & Scholarly Account
On Friday, 17th of Ramadan, 2 AH, the decisive showdown between truth and falsehood took place at Badr. The Muslims numbered only 313, possessing merely two horses and 70 camels, facing an arrogant army of over 1,000 heavily armored Quraysh led by Abu Jahl. The Prophet ﷺ spent the entire night in his tent (Al-Arish) supplicating with upraised arms until his cloak fell: 'O Allah, if this small band of Muslims is destroyed, You will not be worshipped on this earth!' Allah answered with rain and sent 1,000 angels. The Muslims achieved a historic victory, defeating Quraysh's elite leaders (including Abu Jahl and Umayyah ibn Khalaf). Captives were treated with unprecedented kindness — ransomed by teaching ten Muslim children to read.
“And Allah had already given you victory at Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful.”
Surah Al Imran (3:123) — The divine assistance and angelic intervention at Badr.
