Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj (The Night Journey & Ascension)
الإِسْرَاءُ وَالمِعْرَاج
Historical & Scholarly Account
Following the trials of the Year of Sorrow and Ta'if, Allah granted Rasulullah ﷺ the ultimate divine honor. In one night, he was transported upon Al-Buraq with Archangel Jibril from Al-Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Al-Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem (Al-Isra'). There, he led all the Prophets in congregational prayer. He then ascended through the seven heavens (Al-Mi'raj), meeting Adam, Yahya, Isa, Yusuf, Idris, Harun, Musa, and Ibrahim عليهم السلام, until reaching Sidrat al-Muntaha (The Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary). There, beyond human comprehension, Allah spoke to him directly and gifted the Muslim Ummah the Five Daily Prayers (Salah).
“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed...”
Surah Al-Isra (17:1) — The miraculous physical night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem.
