The Journey to Ta'if & The Prayer of Mercy
رِحْلَةُ الطَّائِفِ وَدُعَاءُ الرَّحْمَة
Historical & Scholarly Account
Seeking a sanctuary for the message, the Prophet ﷺ walked 60 miles to Ta'if with Zayd ibn Harithah to invite the tribe of Thaqif. The chieftains mocked him arrogantly and incited their street youths to pelt him with stones for miles. His blessed body bled until his sandals were soaked with blood. Seeking refuge in an orchard, he made his famous intimate supplication: 'O Allah, unto You I complain of my weakness, of my lack of resources, and of my lowliness before the people...' Archangel Jibril and the Angel of the Mountains appeared, offering to crush Ta'if between the two mountains. The Prophet of Mercy ﷺ replied: 'No! Rather, I hope that Allah will bring forth from their loins people who will worship Allah alone without associating partners with Him.'
